Congratulations to all the members and supporters of the VACC Alumni Association. We have achieved the goal as set out 14 years ago - to keep the camp alive, vibrant and at the top of the hill in Vernon.
Since 1994, it has been a bit of a roller coaster with the DND. Without the 'sober second thought' created by our presence, it would have been very easy for someone in Ottawa or LFWA to obliterate Camp Vernon with the simple stroke of a pen. Instead, they knew that such a move would precipitate a serious backlash from our organization. With the recent construction initiatives and expansion plans, it is VERY apparent that we have met our objective and won the battle.
The group affectionately known as the V-Team (members resident in the Okanagan), have been the front line troops through all of this. Gladys & Tom Mason, Don Morphet, Dennis Mori, Norm Sanderson, Kelly James and many others have fought valiantly for the cause - and with great success. Every time there was a parade, drumhead ceremony of need for VACC AA presence - there they were - front and centre, representing OUR interests.
We doff our hats and thank each and every member who gave of their time and resources to help us win this battle. Now it is time for a rest. The front line troops deserve the time to bask in the glow and glory of their success.
